Welcoming Week 2025: ELIP launches ‘Stories We Share’ campaign to amplify newcomer stories and community connections

Edmonton, AB  — Edmonton Local Immigration Partnership (ELIP) is marking Welcoming Week 2025 with a city-wide campaign that highlights stories of newcomers and the organizations that support them. This year’s theme, Stories We Share, focuses on amplifying authentic voices while countering common myths about immigration.

Throughout the week, ELIP will roll out a dedicated social media campaign profiling the work of local organizations. The campaign will feature stories that reflect both the challenges and successes of newcomers, aiming to spark dialogue and resonate with everyday Edmontonians.

“Stories help us see ourselves in one another. By sharing real experiences of newcomers, we break down barriers, build understanding, and remind ourselves of the resilience and contributions that shape our city,” said Judy Smith,  Director, Community Investment at the City of Edmonton.

Organizations are encouraged to get involved by sharing stories, highlighting their programs, and submitting details of their activities or events to ELIP for cross-promotion. Posts will be shared throughout the week on ELIP’s Instagram, LinkedIn, and other platforms.

Welcoming Week is a global campaign launched in 2012 by Welcoming America and its members. It celebrates the people, places, and values that foster belonging and inclusion for all. Across Edmonton, ELIP and its partners are using the week to showcase the work being done to help immigrants and non-immigrants build connections and strengthen communities.
